Verner Gaggin Letters
Contains letters written during World War I by Captain Verner Gaggin, a doctor who served at Camp Oglethorpe, Georgia, to his wife Nell in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Topics discussed include day-to-day hospital proceedings and the impact of the Influenza epidemic of 1918.

This collection consists of a letter written by Lord George Hastings (later the Earl of Huntingdon) addressed to an unnamed Lord, offering congratulations on the honor with which the King had awarded his service, and asking for a recommendation to the King. The letter was written in Vienna, Austria. Also included are two pages of research from the donor, including evidence that the recipient of the letter was Arnold van Keppel, Earl of Albemarle.

A contract binding William Byrd to a payment of £55 of current money in Virginia, for services rendered him by his attorneys and executors in dealing with a case involving Robert Carter. Signed by William Byrd, John Jameson, George Wythe, and Thomas Walne. Including a notation on verso that the item was captured at the house of William Harrison, member of the Rebel Congress, June 25, 1864.

He reports that a captain, lieutenant, and twenty men of the 54th Virginia (Infantry?) abandoned their picket. He orders the recipient to immediately send out enough men to fill the gap, and to keep the news as quiet as possible.
