The Endowment Association of the College of William & Mary in Virginia, Incorporated, founded in 1939, changed its name to The College of William & Mary Foundation on July 1, 2006. The Foundation's mission is “to aid, strengthen, and expand in every proper and useful way the work, usefulness and objects of” the College. The William & Mary Foundation manages the College's endowments, including the Athletic Educational Foundation and the Marshall-Wythe School of Law Foundation.
The Foundation is run by a professional staff along with a board of trustees made up of alumni and friends of the College. The trustees work with alumni, faculty, staff and others to obtain funding for scholarships, fellowships, professorships, facilities, and research.
Collection is open to all researchers. Manuscript collections and archival records may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy laws and regulations, such as the Virginia Public Records Act (Code of Virginia. § 42.1-76-91); and the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (Code of Virginia § 2.2-3705.5). Confidential material may include, but is not limited to, educational, medical, and personnel records. If sensitive material is found in this collection, please contact a staff member immediately. The disclosure of personally identifiable information pertaining to a living individual may have legal consequences for which the College of William and Mary assumes no responsibility.
