Randall S. (Randy) Hawthorne was a student at the College of William and Mary from 1963 to 1967, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He went on to obtain his J.D. in 1970 and a M.L.T. in 1971, both from the College of William and Mary. In 1970, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army Reserve. After leaving William and Mary, he served in the U.S. Army and eventually worked in a private accounting practice in Williamsburg, Virginia. Hawthorne remained connected to track and field at William and Mary after graduation, creating Track Talk, a newsletter for William and Mary track alumni in 1976, as well as raising funds to benefit the track and field program.
