Daybooks, 1852-1854, of Rector and Welch, merchants of Little Georgetown, (Fauquier County) Va.

Daybook of a grocer in the small town of Red Oak, Virginia. This daybook contains a list of daily goods sold, cost amounts, and to whom goods were sold. The daybook contains 292 pages, all of which contain handwritten entries, and measures 15 inches x 7 inches x 1 inch.  This daybook contains page number notations that refer to a second ledger (likely to an account ledger which showed money owed by specific individuals), but the location of this second ledger is currently unknown.

Letters, 1790-1791, received by James Reid of Huie, Reid & Co., merchants of Dumfries, Prince William County, Va. Many deal with the tobacco trade and prices.

The Committee on Research Funds was chaired by Nelson Marshall, then Charles F. Marsh. The collection contains office files including correspondence, grant applications, and proposals.

Papers, 1886-1923, of L. S. Rhodes and Sons, Linnville, Rockingham County, Va. Chiefly accounts with suppliers, local producers, manufacturers, and wholesale houses, but including bank statements, canceled checks, tax and license receipts. Consists of 5,810 items and about 100 manuscript volumes.

The ledgers are stored off-site and require a 72 hour notice for retrieval.

Journals (A and B) and daybooks (C and D), 1888-1893, of Rhodes & Speck, merchants, of Athens and Edom, [Rockingham County], Va.

Contains letters, publications, and photo negatives collected by the Rice family of Staunton, Virginia, from 1905-1966. Betsy Rice was involved with the local American Youth Hostels, and many of the booklets relate to hostels in the 1940s. A more detailed description is provided at the series level..

Diary, 1829-1838, of Richard B. Buckner, "St. Bernard," Fauquier County, Virginiaa.], discussing farm work and the weather.

Business, military and legal papers, chiefly 1774-1822, of Richard Billups of Mathews and Gloucester Counties, Virginia. Papers include accounts, land records, and correspondence and some concern shipbuilding. Includes minutes, 1842, of a temperance meeting and Methodist church records.

Acc. 1984.066: Biennial budget exhibits including justifications, revenue estimates, capital outlay requests, and budget summaries for 1962-68 and 1972-76.

Acc. 1984.067: Capital outlay requests prepared for the state legislature. They include justifications for each proposed project and the amount each would cost. Projects are listed in order of priority.

Ledger, 1786-1797, of Richard Corbin of Caroline County, Va. including farm accounts and records of enslaved persons.

Journal, 1837-1849, of Richard N. Johnson, merchant, of [Fauquier County, Va. ?]

Diary, 1942-1944, of Richard Rabenstein of Chester, West Virginia. Rabenstein was born on 5 December 1933, making him 8 years old when he started keeping this diary. Discusses events at school, at his church, scores of football and basketball games, the weather, and other issues.

This collectoin consists of a bill of sale for the grist milll owned by R.B. Richardson to A.B. Cranstone for 365 dollars and 30 cents. The mill contained approximately 75 acres of land and timber in James City County, Virginia. A transcription of the bill of sale is also included.

3 typed copies of a proposal for a bill by the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad Company "that as their profits must be for some time to come, absorbed in thepayment of their debts, they be allowed to pay to the state and to the individual stockholders, dividends in new stock bearing interest, in lieu of money which connot be paid to either."  Undated.

Two page letter addressed to, "Brother" dated December 9, 1863. Contents are family affairs, updates on neighbors, and wishes that the Union troops will leave all lands unmolested as the battles in the state continue.

Papers, 1867-1872, of William Richmond, Yokum Station, Lee County, Va. Includes letters, 1867-1869, written to William Richmond, Yokum Station, Lee County, Va. by merchants in Baltimore, Md. and Philadelphia, Pa. concerning Richmond's produce including eggs and ginseng; price lists, 1867-1872; and bills of lading.

Scrapbook, circaa. 1900, of newspaper clippings, many undated, glorifying the Southern cause during the Civil War. Includes articles about Confederate dead, monuments and reminiscences of battle. May have been compiled by W. Bat Riddick who had served as a private in Company E, 25th Virginia Infantry, Confederate States Army.

Papers, 1812-1915, of the Riddle family of Chambersburg, Pa., Baltimore, Md., and Charlestown, W. Va. Chiefly the correspondence and accounts of Horace R. Riddle, banker of Baltimore, Md. and Charles Town, W. Va. who was the agent for the receiver of the Bank of the Valley in Virginia. Collection also includes a farm account book, 1812-1832, of James Riddle of Chambersburg; and plans and specifications for re-modeling a house in Charles Town.

Personal and professional papers of Dr. Franklin Riley, Southern historian, teacher of history at University of Mississippi and Washington and Lee, and author.  Papers date 1843-1930.  Formerly on deposit at the University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill under the accession number 1533.

Letters, 1824-1864, written by William Cabell Rives of "Castle Hill," Albemarle County, Va. to William MacCreery Burwell, Mahlon Dickerson, Robert Selden Garnett, Doctor Robert W. Haxall and John Milton Niles discussing his political philosophy reflecting his change from the Democratic to the Whig Party, plans for visits, and family news.
