William Winston Snead Papers, 1898-1899

Scope and Contents The collection includes six Certificates of Distinction awarded to Snead.  There is one dated June 23, 1898 and presented to Snead for passing his examination in the Department of Pedagogy.  It is signed by Hugh S. Bird (Professor of Pedagogy) and Lyman Brown Wharton (Secretary of the Faculty).  The Wren Building is engraved on this certificate.  The other five certificates are dated June 22, 1899 and feature engravings of King William III and Queen Mary II.  Snead was awarded these...

Charles W. Sydnor Papers

This collection contains an essay written by Sydnor titled "Realisation of the Ideal Ration-self" and a petition to the faculty of the College of William and Mary.  The petition was submitted by members of the senior class to confer a diploma upon Sydnor. It is signed by nine seniors: James Hubard Lloyd, Thomas Peachy Spencer, John Baynham Terrell, Alfred Lynch Terrell, Charles Irving Carey, Herman Blankinship, Slater Clay Blackiston, Charles Franklin Counts, and W. E. McDonald.

William Tayloe Letter

Scope and Contents Letter dated November 1, 1858 and written by Tayloe to a woman named Lizzie. He describes his boarding situation (he was a student at the College of William and Mary at the time) and mentions the names of other students boarding with him, listing them by their surnames only (including Page, Harrison, and Robinson). Thomas H. Daniel Thesis and Oration

The collection consists of two items. The first is Daniel's thesis, written in 1831. The front page says "Eulogy on Washington, Intended & Ppresented as the Thesis of Tho. H. Daniel, when an applicant for graudation at Wm & Mary College in 1831." The other is an oration dlivered at the Prince George County Courthouse on July 4, 1834 on the 58th anniversary of American Independence.

Tillar-Pope Families Collection

Clarence Lee Turnipseed Papers

The collection includes a degree essay titled "Ideal Rational Self," as well as two letters written by Turnipseed to the faculty of the College of William and Mary.  The letters are dated June 5, 1905 and June 8, 1905 and ask if Turnipseed can substitute a couple of his earned diplomas for two classes he failed as 1905 was his last year of school.  The June 8th letter also asks if he can take an examination in Solid Geometery.
