It was commissioned by the 50th Commemoration Committee in honor of the 50th anniversary of African Americans in Residence at William & Mary. It officially premiered at Commencement on May 12, 2018, sung by the W&M Choir. To prepare, the Choir performed the work during their Spring Tour and again at the Spring Choral Concert.
