Letter, 1942 Dec.
One letter from John Halko to his friend, Zygmunt Chmielewski postmarked December 8, 1942. Halko served in World War II in the Army Air Force. He wrote his letter from Lincoln Air Base in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Five Confederate Bills, ranging from $5.00 to $100.00 in currency. All bills are issued 1864. Also two notes from the city of Richmond for $.50 and $.75 dated April 14, 1862. Various receipts for dry goods, clothing, and debts. Also included among these receipts is a promissory note for the sum of $180.00 for the hire of two negro slaves, January 5, 1844. Land deed plot is for Reuben Jordan's estate dated February 20, 1835. Exact plat location is unknown in Virginia.

One of his brother's, David Mandel also served in the Army Air Force as an Officer (Lieutenant). One of his letters is from Langley Air Field, Virginia. This small collection consists of a diary kept by Eunice A. Will, wife of Reverend Vincent Will while serving as missionaries for the Lutheran Church in Pakistan in 1955. In it she gives a synopsis of her daily routines and records finances.She also keeps a lengthy list of grocieries in her daily writings.

Jan. 1944 postcard written by William W. Hanawalt to his wife in Allentown, Pa., while Hanawalt was stationed at Camp Peary, Va. The postcard states that "we are to get exceptionally good chow this week . . . this morning we had pork chops and for noon chow we had turkey and lots of it." The front of the postcard is of the football stadium at "William and Mary College" in Williamsburg, Va.

Two letters from Rowland Young to his parents dated July 20, 1043 and October 1, 1944. In his letters Young talks about his dislike for the Medical Corps and time spent at Camp Pickett in Virginia. Young served with the Eleventh Engineer Combate Battalion, Company B. during World War II.

Letter from "Willie G.M." to "Sue" dated February the Last, 1861 from Gordonsville, Virginia. In it, Willie writes of wanting to be with Sue but dismisses her proposition for her and Jose to visit. He insists that Jose has too much of a desire to be "white" for his liking. The letter continues as he laments his aching neck and absence from her.
