Scope and Contents

Account book, 1875-1878, for the Davis and Bower City Meat Market in Charleston, Illinois. Giles Davis (1828-1878), who was one of the owners seems to have made most of the entries.

Recorded in the indexed volume are names of customers, types of purchase and how those were paid for (cash or barter). Also included are several loose receipts, including one from the Farmers' Club and Charleston Township, of which Davis was a member.
