Correspondence to various members of the Williamsburg Southall Family. March 23, 1828 letter from Patrick Macaulay to George Southall in Winchester, Virginia; 1828 letters from Robert Anderson to his step-son, George Southall in Winchester, Virginia; April 30, 1832 letter from Peyton A. Southall to Honorable Levi Woodburry, Secretary of the Navy, Washington City, D.C., resigning his appointment of Purser in the United States Navy. Contemporary copy; 1831-1850 correspondence from William Underwood and Eliza Underwood, Surry Courthouse, to George W. Southall about personal and business financial matters. William and Eliza Underwood ask for financial help through the years. Eliza's letters give personal information about their dire circumstances. (William Underwood may be the son of Elizabeth Southall Underwood who is the great-aunt of George Southall); March 26, 1839 note from J. Mutter to George W. Southall, stating "J. Mutter would like to see Mr. Geo. W. Southall at the Rawleigh Tavern. Sunday Morning" and a March 30, 1839 letter about the bonds of Robert Anderson. (Note: George Southall's sister, Ann, married Thomas Mutter); March 12, 1845 letter from A.W. Cabaniss thanking George W. Southall for advancing $25 to Miss Julia Cabaniss and October 5, 1854 letter from J.H.G. to "Miss Matilda Southall" stating "I have sent a messenger in search of you. Should he be so fortunate as to find - and I hope he will - have the charity to let me know where you are, and how you are? as I am really anxious to know, dear Matilda..."
