Reproduction of lithograph, circa 1900s

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 8

Scope and Contents

A monochrome photomechanical reproduction print of the lithograph "William and Mary College at Williamsburg, Va.," based on drawings by Thomas Millington. Although no date is provided on the print, a conservation survey estimates it was created sometime in the twentieth century.

The print depicts William & Mary's Historic Campus, including the Brafferton, Wren Building, and President's House. In the foreground of the print, men in formal attire socialize in the Wren Courtyard, among cattle and the original statue of Lord Botetourt. The lithographic image is often referred to as simply the "Millington Print."

At the bottom margin, the image's title is printed, followed by a short description: "Lithograph of Wren Building, Brafferton, and President's House, by C.L. Ludwig, Richmond, Va., after a drawing by Thomas C. Millington, circa 1840. Original in the Earl Gregg Swem Library, College of William and Mary."

This specific print was transferred from the University Archives Photograph Collection (UA 8) to the Thomas Millington Collection (MS 00306) on July 26, 2019.
