In Petersburg 3 weeks. Hugh came the Wednesday before Anne left and stayed one night because he had to go to Memphis where he expects to get a commission under the Confederate States in Col Bowen’s regiment. He left the day Eliza was buried. She died Wednesday the 12th and was buried the next day at 4 o’clock. Sam and her brothers arrived after she was already gone. Left Petersburg Monday morning and joined Nannie B. who had left the Friday before in Hillsboro. Robert is going to join the hornet’s nest, a company in Col Hill’s regiment at Yorktown. People here been busy today fixing boxes for the North Carolina regiments. Robert leaves tonight and Florence Morton goes as far as Petersburg with him. Anna is going to Hillsboro as well as Willie who is going there to study medicine. Armistead is in the Calvary Company near Little Rock.
