Scope and Contents

Diaries, 1902-1910, of Mary L. Gilbert of Watertown, New York. Gilbert lives with her widowed mother, and describes events such as spending time on a yacht, spending winters in rented homes and cottages in Florida, and meetings with dignitaries, including members of the Cuban armed forces. There are also descriptions of people with whom she meets, events which she attends, and world events, such as the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake.

Scope and Contents Contains an autograph album and two publications about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire that once belonged to Mary Murphy, a nurse in San Francisco during the earthquake. The publications include the book "Story of the Earthquake and Fire" by Wilbur Gleason Zeigler, published in 1906 by L. C. Osteyee containing photographs and first-hand stories of what happend during the fire. The other publication is titled "San Francisco Earthquake and Fire...Scenes Before, During and After,"...
