This collection contains photographs, letters, and ephemera related to the life and career of Dr. Waverly M. Cole, an anesthesiologist from Richmond, Virginia. Included in the papers are awards and school diplomas, photographs of Cole while a student at the College of William and Mary and the Medical College of Virginia (MCV), and letters written to Human Rights organizations.

One page letter from Dr. Nathan Colgate Whitehead in Norfolk dated 19 February 1836.  It is an order from Dr. Whitehead for various elixirs and compounds presumably to be used for administration to his patients.  Included in his requests is sarsaparilla, li[qu]orice, French Chloride Lime, French Chloride Soda, Jujube paste, and Chloride Lime among other requests.

Notes about visits to patients which include treatments, medicines dispensed, prescriptions, notes, calculations, and payment records. There are over 60 entries for the treatment of enslaved individuals and several are named. One entry notes the removal of a tumor from a "Negro Woman." This account book spans the period of 1844 to 1849 and contains information on patient visits (including slaves), charges for services rendered, payments made, and bonds payable to Dr. Warren.
