Appomattox Manor Music Collection

Scope and Contents The collection contains bound volumes and sheet music of the 19th century and early to mid 20th century. Appomattox Manor, near Hopewell, Virginia, has belonged to the Eppes family since 1635, when Captain Francis Eppes was granted a patent to the land. The Manor served as the headquarters of General Ulysses S. Grant during the Civil War. The home was restored and is open to the public. The collection contains both popular and classical music. Frances Breeze Music Collection

Scope and Contents

Book and individual sheet music of musical scores, probably collected by Frances Breeze.  Scrapbooks created by Josephone Carey Stanton and possibly others. Roland Halstead's collection of ephemera from trips abroad and musical production programs and guides. Undetermined parts of the collection were given by Dianne Webb (via Frances Breeze) in memory of Manny and Harold Chapman. Includes a handwritten score by Harold Chapman.

Mary Thedieck Ewald Papers, circa 1934-1990

Scope and Contents

Contains notebooks, sheet music, correspondence, manuscripts and other material pertaining to Mary Thedieck Ewald, class of 1942 at the College of William and Mary. The bulk of the papers relates to Ewald's writing career, mainly poetry. The collection also contains notebooks from her undergraduate days at William & Mary as well as graduate notebooks from Harvard University.

Josephine W. Shinholser Collection of Sheet Music

Scope and Contents Although this collection spans 1890 to 1997, most of the sheet music was copyrighted before the 1940s. Also included is a photograph of a piece of music and a small music book with no copyright. Roughly half of the songs are related to the moon in some way.
