The collection consists of letters, ephemera, and original art work created by S. Cole Bradley while stationed in the Philippines as a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force during World War II. The bulk of the letters are addressed to Eudora Lampman, whom he would later marry. The sketches are done in pencil as well as pen and ink with watercolors. The drawings depict everyday military life in the Philippines including ships, landscapes, and servicemen at work and leisure.

William W. Silvis Letter to Samuel Steel

Letter, 1865 January 12, from William W. Silvis, Oakland Crossroads, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania to Samuel Steel. In the letter, Silvis talks about the health of Steel's family and the halt of rail roading as a result of the cold weather, wonders if Steel has been in any fights while in the Union Army, and notes that there will be a draft in February if the quota of soldiers is not met. The letter was given by Katrina Garrison in honor of Elizabeth Yeates.

Ten Years' War Collection

Two manuscripts and an accompanying letter describing an insurrection in Cuba during the Ten Years' War. The manuscripts give an account of how many insurgents were killed or wounded, name the towns that were ccupied by the insurgents, and give the status of supplies and ammunition. The accompanying letter, from James C. Burnham to Lanman & Kemp of New York, describes the status of the sugar trade in Cuba. Transcripts are included.

This consists of one letter addressed to Joshua Tompson of Edgefield District, South Carolina, and is signed by his cousin Joe. The letter was written while Joe was aboard a ship called the "Republic" in Charleston, South Carolina. In the letter, he references the high heat in Charleston, and solicits a visit from his cousin. He also makes reference to wanting to discuss the presidential election and comments on the slaves in Charleston.
