At the front of the volume is an 8 page printed account entitled "Memorable Events in the Secession Rebellion together with Fluctuations in the Price of Gold," which gives a timeline of events during the Civil War. There is also entries which detail Horace Shepardson's life, including his travels throughout the state, his work on farms, and singing school, among others.
