One letter from Michael F. Groom to Genny Nackard dated 1945 October 30. Groom served with the 716th Signal Air Warning Company and writes from Washington State.  In his letter he talked of getting out of the Army and longing to be home.

Scope and Contents From the File:

This letter was written by Henry B. (Harry) Looker while he was a cadet at West Point Military Academy. It is addressed to his father, and is dated June 28, 1878. In it, Looker describes his struggle to adjust to the school, his unhappy experience with it so far, and his indecision about staying.

Two letters, 1944 and 1945, written by German prisoners of war from camps in Virginia (Camp Pickett and Camp Hampton Roads) to their families in Germany. Both letters are written on official prisoner of war form stationary and have been stamped by a U.S. censor. The letters are written in Suetterlin script.

Scope and Contents From the Collection:

Two letters from Henry C. Moss to Henry (Hank) J. Heusinkveld dated November 16, 1943 and May 6, 1944.  Moss served in World War II with the Army's 342nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion, Battery C.  He wrote both letters from Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Scope and Contents From the Collection:

This letter was written from Norfolk, Virginia on March 16, 1899. The stationary uses a New Atlantic Hotel letterhead. The letter was written to Mrs. T. H. Bliss, wife of Tasker H. Bliss, in Rosemont, Pennsylvania. It was written by her brother. It discusses her brother's time in Norfolk waiting to return to Pennsylvania, and lists visits he made.

Scope and Contents From the Collection:

One letter from Corpral Harry Kamil, 803rd Bomber Squadron, 470th Bomb Group, to his wife dated September 24, 1943.  In it he describes an airplane crash on the base and the horror of extracting the deceased in the aftermath.

Scope and Contents From the Collection: Four letters from Melvin Griffith to his wife, Dorothy, from Saigon, Vietnam dated 1969-1971.  In his letters Griffith details a rocket explosion near the United States Embassy that killed women and children, a child who was shot while planting explosives on a vehicle, and the beating of a United States female driver who was pregnant so she would abort the child.  Griffith goes on to talk about the manner in which the United States Press does not report accurately about the events in...
