Scope and Contents

This collection contains materials from the welcome given to former Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter when they arrived for their presidential debate at William & Mary. The collection contains newspaper articles about the event as well as plans and meeting minutes created for the organization of the event. In addition, details regarding the creation and erection of the "Welcome Jimmy and Jerry" banner are included.

Biographical / Historical

The Head Resident of the Bryan Complex on William and Mary campus, H. Gregory Campbell Jr, and his residents designed a sign and organized an unveiling of the sign to greet President Ford and Jimmy Carter when they arrived on campus. The sign includes caricatures of "Jimmy" and "Jerry" that were designed by Mary Grayson, class of 1978. The William and Mary Pep Band played live music at the event and the sign covered the Bryan dormitory.
