Scope and Contents

This collection contains administrative records, fliers, awards, scrapbooks and other material related to the Young Democrats, a political student organization at the College of William and Mary. Included in the records are fliers and handbooks for the Virginia Young Democrats (VAYD) Convention held at the College in April 2011; fliers for events hosted by the Young Democrats; scrapbooks containing photographs of events held by the organization from 2006-2012; and campaign literature for local, state, and national elections. Custodial History:

A portion of this collection was previously part of the University Archives Publications Collection and then subsequently the Student Organizations Collection before being separated 5/2011 to form its own collection.

Acquisition Information:

Various gifts. Acc. 2011.289 was hand delivered to the SCRC by the donor on 5/11/2011. Acquisition information for material received after 7/13/2009 is available by consulting a Special Collections Research Center staff member.

Future additions are expected.

The posters related to the William and Mary Young Democrats were separated from Acc. 2014.020 and were added to the University Archives Poster Collection (UA 12).

Campaign posters related to the Tidewater area were separated from Acc. 2014.020 and were added to the Williamsburg (Va.) Emphera Collection (UA 1.09).

Campaign posters related to the statewide and national elections were separated from Acc. 2014.020 and were added to the Emphera Collection (UA 1.02).

Acc. 2014.020 contains the following artifacts that were transferred to the University Archives Artifact Collection: 5 buttons, 3 t-shirts, 1 student assembly medical amnesty can cozy. An inflatable donkey was separated from Acc. 2014.020 and was added to the Education Collection.

Separated Materials:

Young Democrats records that were once part of the University Archives Subject File and Student Organizations Collections were separated from those collections and added to this collection on 5/20/2011.

The posters related to the William and Mary Young Democrats were separated from Acc. 2014.020 and were added to the University Archives Poster Collection (UA 12).

Campaign posters related to the Tidewater area were separated from Acc. 2014.020 and were added to the Williamsburg (Va.) Emphera Collection (UA 1.09).
