Identifier: SC 01120

  • Staff Only

Scope and Contents

Travel diary (10pp), November-December 1950, describing the town of Darien, Georgia.  The cover carries the title "Trip No. 14, Jacksonville, Fl. to North Ga. and S. (?) of Main, additional detailed notes and impressions, Nov. 21, 1950,"  but only Darien is mentioned in this volume.

Observations seem to have been made from aboard a boat and the writer describes in detail the coast,  river and town, the fishing docks, the shrimpers and fishermen,  dock laborers, the stores, and people, commenting in several places on the fact that Darien has a large black population.
