15 Dec[embe]r 1794. Robert. Stephen/ Berkeley Co[unt]y, Virg[ini]a, [K. Va. ]/ to General Robert Lawson, "near Lexington," Kentucky. Inquiries into the status of land owned by his [RS] brother/ Gen[era]l Stephen, in Kentucky, as well as lands sold by his brother to Jno. Strode and Mr. [?] Gatewood. 1 p. ALS. 18 January 1840. J[oel] Poinsett, [Secretary of War], War Department, [Washington, D.C], to Hon. W[illiam] K[ey] Bond, House of Representatives, [Washington, D.C.]. Encloses answers to inquiries concerning the status of land/money due the heirs of Col. Robert Lawson for his Revolutionary [War] services. 1 p. LS. Including LS, 2 March 1835, from Peter Hagner, Aud[itor], Treasury Department, 3d Auditor's Office, [Washington, D.C], to Hon. R.M. Johnson, U.S. House of Rep[resentative]s, [Washington, D.C], reporting that Col. Robert. Lawson resigned [his commission] on 15 December 1777, and therefore was not. entitled to commutation. 1 p. Also including ALS, 17 Jan[uar]y 1840, from W[illia]m Gordon, Department of War, Bounty Land Office, [Washington, D.C], to the Secretary of War, [J.R. Poinsett, Washington, D.C], reporting that Robert Lawson, Col. of the 4th Regt. of the Va. Continental line, resigned his commission in Dec. 1777, thusly forfeiting his right to any bounty lands from the U[nited] States government. 1 p. [All letters were then forwarded to Col. John S. Taylor, Chillicothe, Ohio, the originator of the inquiry.]
