Gave her letter to Miss Ellen Mordecai; encloses Miss Ellen's reply [not present]; Miss Ellen's sister Mrs Lazarus; Mrs. Lazarus, her husband, and her father were not Christian; Mrs. Lazarus managed to educatue her children with Christian values in spite of her family; he was able to be baptized just before she died; her husband already being dead; is reminded of families in the early Christian era by Mrs. Lazarus's story; is very glad that he was brought up in a Christian family; Miss Laura [Mordecai], his favorite, is a Christian; does not think that he and she will maryy; appreciates her advice on the subject anyway; Mr. Mordecai's health; Miss Ellen wants to raise Mrs. Lazarus's daughters herself; regrets the death of Dr. Wilke's wife; would rather never marry than have his wife die young; news of friends; a violent thunderstorm; more news of friends; wishes her much success with her new book. 4pp. ALS
