Discusses the difficulties involved in the present negotiations between King and the British commissioners; President John Adams informs him that an informal agreement will be satisfactory as it will be impossible to induce the British cabinet to abandon their principles; matters are left to his good judgment; the stipulation of a sum is better than the present unsettled situation.
