Scope and Contents
Blesses George Washington who resigned his commission of 23 December 1783; will put Monroe's letter to Major John Crittenden into the hands of General George Rogers Clarke, who will be in the western country in February, and who will pay close attention to Monroe's military warrant; mentions that the Speaker John Tyler has left Richmond; laments the passage of the bill excluding Virginian delegates to Congress from serving in the Virginian legislature; "Fear of the power of Congress I have ever considered as chimerical;" Colonel John Francis Mercer informed him of the passage in the Continental Congress of the resolution accepting Virginia's cession of the northwest territory.
