Scope and Contents

Minutes of the meeting of Board of Trustees for the Transylvania seminary, 1787 July 18. Minutes state that they petition the General Assembly of Virginia that "one sixth part of the surveyors' fees arising within this district, hitherto applied and appropriated to the use of the College of William and Mary, for the future be paid to the Trustees of the Transylvania Seminary... and a committee be now appointed for the purpose of drawing up a petition to the above purport..." The minutes also include a request to the board that "entries and surveys of land within this district which are echeatable 12,000 acres of which are appropriated to this seminary ... not be forfeited since that haven't yet been settled.

The July 19, 1787 minutes endorse the motions, plus ordered they be published in the Virginia Gazette for 3 weeks.

Includes a copy of a June 5, 1940 article from the Kentucky Post, Cincinnati, Ohio, abou the history of Transylvania College.
