Scope and Contents Informs Buchanan that he has been offered the clerkship of the U.S. District court which has decided to decline; wishes to emphasize taht while he is honored by the good sentiments about him given by his riends to the President, he has not authorized any of them to place him as an applicant for any position "at [Buchanan's] hands"; reports that the Municipal Election has gone "heavily against" them, but that it has nothing to do with national politics. 1 p.
