The Daniel Selden Jones Jr. Papers covers his youth, military life, business life, family, travel, and material from the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The collection includes correspondence from his childhood and time in the military, photographs, military documents and scanned negatives, photo albums, film, slides, newspaper articles on his business, and travel ephemera.

The Correspondence Series covers Jones’ time as a student at the Augusta Military Institute and Fork Union Military Academy. The correspondences are mainly Jones writing to his mother, Annie Jones (Smith). There are also some condolence cards from when his father, Daniel Jones Sr. died in 1950.

The Photograph, Film, and Slides Series contains photographs mainly of the Jones’ family from the 1930s-1980s and his time in the military in Germany from 1951-1952. The slides and filmstrips are of the family and travel.

The Album Series contains four albums. Three of them are photograph albums mainly of family, dogs, travel, and postcards from the 1930s-1970s. The fourth album contains letters from 1942-1943 by Jones to his mother.

The Military Series contains written material and uniform pieces of Jones. Most of it is official military documents pertaining to his time at the Signal School at Fort Monmouth, military awards and certificates, various discharge forms. The series also contains uniform parts like dog tags, his corporal stripes, pin, and some military belts.

The School Series contains various material on Jones from the 1930s-1951. It includes material like grade reports, certificates, report cards and some letters.

The Jones Radio & TV Service Series contains material from the business owned by Daniel Jones and later by a partnership with him and his wife. It includes some sales accounts, contracts, orders, and nametags.

The Travel Ephemera Series contains material from the travels of Daniel and Ingrid Jones. It contains travel cards from various businesses around Virginia, Georgia, and Massachusetts. It also includes postcards from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and various US States, brochures from around the United States, and other travel ephemera.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy Series contains material from Annie Jones’ time as a member and president of the Williamsburg Chapter. It contains various letters written to Annie Jones, event programs, yearbooks, and an official calendar.

The Miscellaneous Series includes documents from the American Kennel Club, Merrimac Dog Training Club, records relating to deeds, genealogy, newspaper clippings, and funeral documents for Daniel Jones, Sr.

Collection is open to all researchers.
