File — Box: Small Collections Box 77, Folder: 1

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

Notebook of Hedwig Spriestersbach, titled Tagebuch Hedwig Spriestersbach, Lollschied, Deutsches Bauerntum, circa 1930s. Although Tagebuch translates directly as diary, notebook is a better descriptive term as the volume contains notes on the German farming community with emphasis on Lollschied (Hessen-Nassau) and surrounding areas and some broader, national topics as well. There are no entries of a personal nature.

It gives the impression of having been composed as a school assignment or under the direction of an organization affiliated with the NSDAP, the governing Nationalsocialist party. Topics are local history of different time periods, the Nationalsocialist ideology and party program, definition of different races, etc.

The volume is written entirely in German and in the Suetterlin alphabet.
