James Grant Wilson, Appleton's Dictionary Of American Biography, New York, N.Y., to General Nathaniel P. Banks requesting that Banks complete an article about himself for the first volume of the publicaiton and if he is willing to write a few other articles about some of his contemporaries.
Includes newspaper article about Kevin Ruffner finding the letter in the "A-C" volume of Appleton's Dictionary of American Biography at Swem Library.
