Letter

Collection — Box: SC Box 95, Folder: 1

Content Description

From the Collection:

Two page letter dated February 16, 1862 intended as an inquiry to the Governor of Georgia from the County of Glynn. As representative of the county, Burnet is asking if the officers of the county (the sheriff, clerks of courts, surveyor, and ordinary) will be subject to a draft in order to furnish the number of troops not filled by volunteers in the time that the Governor requested. The sentiment of the officials is that they would rather resign their posts and volunteer then be drafted.
