Scope and Contents

13 Nov. 1852: Millard Fillmore, Washington, D.C., to Daniel Phillips , Marshfield, Massachusetts - Received a copy of the resolution adopted by the town of Marshfield honoring the late Daniel Webster; expresses his regret at not being able to attend Webster's funeral, and his pleasure at the appreciation now being shown for him [DW]; states that "his [DW] decease has left a void in the political and social circle which will not soon be filled." Endorsement states "Recorded on the town Record Vol. 6, Page 214, Luther Hatch, Town Clerk. 31 Jan. 1851: Authorization to the Secretary of State [Daniel Webster], to affix the Seal of the United States to a pardon granted to Isaac Perine. Signed by President Millard Fillmore.
