Harlu home - shot thru head-hand-leg. Funeral of Alvin Draper. Helped Bro Dycus Undertaker calling people "gather round" "hep out" "corpse." Sang while filling grave-near door & well. House over grave. Home over a very rough hill. Called on Virg. Pistole - picked strawberries. Called on Bed Love lady back of barn. Drove to Indian Creek, boy swearing. Helped saw red cedar log. Talked with Clay Richardson on log. 17 year old boy died at powder plant. Went to his home. Came home over hill - stopped at Wainright Mc Quarres.. the gold star "Do not disturb the dead." Boy gave 5 to send gospel to heathen at Wartrace. Old Fred and auto collided on Pike. Mrs Pistole quieting boys. Terribly sick in night with pains. Little sleep. Good coffee made me feel better. Walked over to meet Van J.B. Ray on the way.(an effort to appear happy due to night before)Rainy, music by all around fireplace. Started for Hensley's Creek after much debating as to manner of traveling. aded Cub. Deep clay mud on Aib Creek Hill. A big quarrel: Cicero swearing & driving off Allen & Wife. Mrs Hix feeble. We're having trouble this morning and are heap torn up about it. Gains remark about Moonshiner asking him to support minister. Claimed to be opposed to night meetings on this account. Called on Mrs Cisco 83; her sister Miss Carnahan 81 smoking long-stemmed pepe feeble step but steadfast look. Helped boy load and unload orchard grass. Pete lived in beautiful valley - bottoms lusurent crops. Roses in yard. Beautiful green sprinkled & splashed hillsides. JUNE 1919 The big springs reminded me of the Geisers of Y.S. Over hill on log visited. Walter Carnahan large dinner 15 children oldest 228 youngest 3. Wet trosers crossing. Long walk beautiful bottoms, hazy hills. Gasoline paddle ferry. Talk with CmCawleys on way to Clay Richardsons met two girls one hen in basket another basket of eggs. Talked with Harley his head two bullets two in arm one in leg. Out to see watermelons in plaed place. Finding a place in barn for night. Bed at 10 Boys coming home from Bullards lively Raymond. Called on Fount McCoinn fixing hoe - buggy thimble. Met sheepish men with little corn in wagon box. With Cicero to Sisco. Queer folks. Aunt Martha lost her pipe. Serene said she bought tobacco for them all. Both tugs broke home bent one shoe off. Talked with Chas till 1:30 (His daughter Rose with 4 day old baby in bed - husband deserted- Charles angry implied gun) Three boys snoring talking in sleep. dog with fleas under bed. Up at 4:30. Went with Hickman in cover & picked 1 gal blackberries. Too tired to keep awake at supper. Stopped at town - shod horse excited at Andersons ferry- boys running from rye field. Hounds chasing fox at 1 am. Boy in church talking a little rough. Met Walter Carnaham in road with Flynn boy. Soldiers from over there. Hurray for Prohabition. And Praise God. JULY 1919 Off for Will Hensons funeral (Will Hensen attempted to swim across river with clothes & amy shoes around neck Rumor he had whisky. Others failed to rescue him. Were they drunk?) Funeral early due to his condition.Town with Hickman. Large crowd ever seen in town. Met Fate Allen told how he was helped. Met Marry. Wes. CcCorn Ice cream with Hickman. Court & School teachers in session. For Home looking like rain. at ferry Storm broke lightening. Many mules crowded on boat behind us. Ben frightened. Prayed for safety to myself. Tied Stanton Hacbetts horse & came home before another storm. Pray naturally so God will understand you and pray Our Father not Our Presbyterian Father but M.E. and all. Went with Will to Ferry. Four of us in Ford. Had to go in water at ferry. Riding up Jennings Creek magnificant sight over corn fields - setting sun - odor of summer cool breeze. Stop at John Sadlers for buttermilk. Reesie Smith said later young folks surprised to see me ride home with Dr Quarles unmark about 15 women ? Seated on porch in beautiful moonlit hills rising beyoned basen - a picturesque silouette of landscape. A most beautiful view of moonlight mountains to the north like a picture in dreamland. A great day. Monday. Chicken breakfast. AUGUST 1919 Helped Mrs W. churn, water, nest egg hatched etc. Sunset scene on J. Creek man with mules at Add Halls. Herford sire in yard. beautiful fields low creek bottom. House opening with veranda to creek bed. Up at night. Up branch to look at Herfords 30 & 70 goats, 15 mules & horses. Water tank. Full flood cow very broad. Water melon (red) & musk melon. Sisero & boys under tree sildiers there (speakman & Sisco) Called at henry Sadlers Mrs Clark there. Ate about 25 peaches. Called on Bill Draper. Drs there. Micca giving ice. Stabbed by Sam CArver on head, in side, in leg. Went to Rad Hix . Waited for him Talk with boys. Redd Alba's letter "bitfches covered with seed ticks, in kitchen Am. Val. org etc." Supper at Keithley. Seated around old Columbia graphophone moved with finger. Turkey in straw ect. Banjo, fiddle. Nice chicken smell. Home and met Mr Jones in road. Peculiar little man. took knife & showed where brother "stabbed" 12x Rested in low gap. Good horse ride to mail box. Off to Henry Sadlers to pick peaches. Climb up high hill looking for Robert Henry found them below in corn field talk with Henry about jconditions still at corner. Many small peaches. Difficult time in getting up creek. Beef dinner at John Sloans horse tired. Rode home on fred."
