46 black and white photographs and 7 postcards compiled by Stella Graves, a recent graduate of Oberlin College who moved to Japan to teach at the Kobe College. Photographs include images of the college, surrounding area, American teachers, and pictures of students and area residents. Of the postcards, all are of the Kobe College and one of the photographs was taken by Stella Graves. Most of the photographs are captioned.

The Hilliards were the first Seventh Day Adventist missionaries to the island of Tongo in 1895. Edward and his wife built a home and established a school while there. A 396 page line diary, 78 film negatives, and 55 glass slides created by Garrett Hondelink during a missionary trip to Kagoshima, Japan. The diary entries include descriptions of daily life, travel throughout Japan, and interactions with other missionaries as well as with Japanese officials.

The negatives and glass slides feature images from Hondelink's travels, showing local people, buildings, and landmarks.
