Two letters to Dr. Galt, Superintendent of the Williamsburg Eastern Lunatic Asylum dated September 12, 1854 and November 27, 1854.  The first letter is an inquiry from the North Branch Supervisor of the city of Petersburg.  He is asking if there are any beds available in the white female department of the hospital.  The second letter is from a William Thompson inquiring about vacancy for a person in his custody because of a status of full capacity at the Western Lunatic Asylum.

Scope and Contents The collection is composed of material, chiefly 1862-1868, relating to Eastern Lunatic Asylum (now Eastern State Hospital), Williamsburg, Va. Includes correspondence, a list of female patients and "coloured" female patients, patient reports, and requisition orders of Dr. Peter Wager, director of the hospital during the Union occupation of Williamsburg.
