Scope and Contents This collection contains letters sent from William Newsum Jr. to his wife Sally, nee Cary, from 1804 through 1806. William Newsum Jr. was a William & Mary alumnus and studied law. They were married on February 1, 1806 and had their first child late 1806 or early 1807. Rockefeller, Jr.'s purchasing houses in Williamsburg.

Gilbert M. Woodward Poem

Scope and Contents

Poem, circa 1864, written by Gilbert M. Woodward. The poem is a humorous look at the role of the printer in the Civil War, and begins "Hail and Thrice Hail Ye Craftsman, / Knights of the Stick and the Rule, / Who through the fiery storm of war / With purpose high and courage cool / the fearful brunt of battle bore..." Throughout the poem, Woodward references the battles in which his unit, the 2nd Wisconsin Volunteers, participated. A transcription of the poem is also included.

Robert Baker Wynne Papers

Content Description Correspondence, artwork, drawings, and notes of Robert Baker Wynne, professor of English at North Carolina State University. Through his poetry writings, Wynne developed and maintained a correspondence relationship with a number well known writers of the 1920's and 30's, including Gertrude Stein and Eudora Welty, of which there is correspondence in this collection between Wynne and them. Wynne was also an avid gardener and some of his affinity of flowers and development of hybrid species...
