Gilbert M. Woodward Poem

Scope and Contents Poem, circa 1864, written by Gilbert M. Woodward. The poem is a humorous look at the role of the printer in the Civil War, and begins "Hail and Thrice Hail Ye Craftsman, / Knights of the Stick and the Rule, / Who through the fiery storm of war / With purpose high and courage cool / the fearful brunt of battle bore..." Throughout the poem, Woodward references the battles in which his unit, the 2nd Wisconsin Volunteers, participated. A transcription of the poem is also included.

World War I Postcard

Scope and Contents One postcard depicting an American soldier towing a pretzel, a beer stein, sausages, and a dachshund. The caption says "I'll bring you back some souvenirs." The postcard was not sent but does bear the name "Harry Lydie" in pencil on the reverse.

World War I Red Cross Hospital Train Photograph Album, circa

Scope and Contents This album contains eleven silver gelatin prints of the train's interior plus one RPPC depicting a machine gun unit. The images of the hospital train interiors include unidentified soldiers and medical staff.

Scope and Contents Stereograph cards, some printed by the Keystone View Company, of scenes from World War II, including a hospital scene, burned wreck of a Zeppelin, grave of Lieut. Quentin Roosevelt, pontoon bridge inspection, bugle call, french flower lady decorating a soldier and clothing issue at Ft. Lee, Virginia.

A blue ribbon with name plate "Lutz" and silk baglike item with "Hankies" and "U.S. Army, Fort Lewis, Wash." printed on it have been transferred to the artifact collection.
