Account book, 1869-1889, of Doctor James Lawrence Cabell, professor of anatomy and surgery at the University of Virginia. Includes his accounts as treasurer of the University of Virginia Chapel fund, as physician to professors at the University, and his personal accounts. The volume was later owned by Cabell's executor, Edward B. Smith. Includes a check in the amount of $1,014.33 from J.L. Cabell to Maj. Edward B. Smith, October 3, 1878.

Includes agreement, 1850, to discontinue the carding of wool, prescriptions for the treatment of disease, letter written to the Gospel Visitor Church of the Brethren's failure to meet; the expenses of Spring Creek Mill; estate accounts; and account concerning the building of a house.

Subjects discussed by Murdock include Jay's Treaty; and Langborn's rental houses in London.

Ledger "B" (MsV Ame29) contains accounts concerning the estate of John Tate (Samuel Finley, executor); daybook (MsV Ame 31) contains an inventory , 1813, of goods put into partnership with William Shields and A. Shields and a manuscript arithmetic copybook, 1832; and ledger, 1842-1842 (MsV Ame33) contains notes, 1851-1867, concerning a fruit orchard.

The volumes have unusual covers of patterned paper, and marbled paper. One cover is another book, "A Course of Book-keeping" used by William S. Newett, Pleasant Green Schoolhouse, Shenandoah County, Va. and one bears a label, Regensburg, Germany.
