Thomas H. Tutwiler Notes

Scope and Contents "Notes on medical jurisprudence," by [Thomas] H. Tutwiler, 1840; and "Notes on the study of law, Blackstone, Vol. I." by Tutwiler, 1841. The volume includes a record, 16 February 1845, of the birth of Thomas Peyton Tutwiler, son of Thomas H. and Harriet M. Tutwiler.

Scope and Contents Mathematics notebook, circa 1820-1822, of Thomas P. Watkins, a student at the College of William and Mary. Includes Watkins' notes on plane trigonometry, likely taught by Ferdinand Stewart Campbell. Includes theorems, proofs, and corollaries, as well as drawings which illustrate each of them.

Thomas Elston Thorne Papers

Scope and Contents This collection contains six composition books of sketches created by Thomas Elston Thorne, a faculty member in the Fine Arts Department at the College of William and Mary. Most of the sketches are of human models but there are drawings of still life as well. One of the sketchbooks also contains notes about composition taken by Thorne.

Scope and Contents Papers, 1750-1935, which are miscellaneous manuscripts with Tyler family connections. Include a scrapbook which includes correspondence of John Tyler, Thomas Walker Gilmer and St. George Tucker mostly with nineteenth- century Virginia politicians. Papers also include printed material, photographs of people and buildings and miscellaneous notes perhaps collected by Lyon G. Tyler and Sue Ruffin Tyler.

Concerns mostly Virginia counties and families, but also includes notes from Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Scotland and England. United Daughters of the Confederacy Records, Williamsburg (Va.)

Scope and Contents Scrapbook material from the Williamsburg Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) consisting of newspaper clippings on the Civil War, veterans still living, battle reenactments, correspondence, yearbooks, programs, and other. Also included are papers concerning Confederate monuments in Williamsburg, as well as dealing with the Cross of Honor. One copy of "A History of the United Daughters of the Confederacy" is included.

Elizabeth Van Lew Collection

Scope and Contents Papers, 1854-1926, collected by John Albree in preparing lectures on Elizabeth Van Lew. Includes letters, notes, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Includes typed copies of her scrapbook. Collection also includes material concerning Jefferson Davis and Civil War letters from North Carolina.

Robert E. Waller Notebook

Scope and Contents Contains Latin notes (Tacitus), scattered diary entries (concerning weather, farming and court business), drafts of deeds and agreements, drafts of speeches by Waller while running for commonwealth's attorney of Spotsylvania County and accounts, concerning corn and the rebuilding of Waller's Church. Includes a folder of loose Waller family items which concern the War of 1812, the Baptist Church and the Readjuster Party.
