Mashpee Indian Tribe Case Papers

Scope and Contents Includes plaintiff's first set of requests for admissions to all defendants; defendants exhibits, copies of articles about the Mashpee Indians; kinship relations; Indian Office files; list of Mashpee Indian community members; and testimony of James L. Axtell concerning "Mashpee Tribe vs. New Seabury Corp. et. al." The suit by the Mashpee Indians to recover lands did not succeed. The court held the Wampanoag people did not constitute a tribe.
