Two page letter to George Mayo, Esq. informing him that he arrived safely at City Point in Norfolk, was received well by the Commandant and treated very well by the citizens of Norfolk. Claiborne sailed from Manchester to Norfolk, and takes the remainder of his letter to write about the possibilities and complexities of marriage to different women.

From his account, Billy Smith beat Bob Scott by 53 votes in his precinct. It is assumed that this vote was for leader of the 17th Virginia Infantry Regiment. Card from the Headquarters Army of Northern Virginia with well wishes for Major James Breathed, wounded and incapacitated for active duty in the Civil War. Robert E. Lee commended him for "valuable services" and good conduct. Other generals such as Wade Hampton, Fitzhugh Lee, J. E. B. Stuart, W. C. Wickham, Thos. L. Rosser, and T. T. Munford commend Breathed for his gallantry and bravery. Robert E. Lee also wrote "with an army of Breatheds I could have conquered the world."

One page letter about Brooke's business difficulties in selling tobacco and recent bankruptcies in the area. He writes to acknowledge two receipts of Norton's and regrets that he cannot pay his debts currently as his tobacco is not selling. In lieu of current payment, he sent an amount of his tobacco. He also writes that he hopes his economic prospects will improve and he will pay his debt back.

Two page letter commending Rear-Admiral F. W. Dickins for his service as Commander of the Coast Squadron as he retires. Evans notes that Dickins was an excellent squadron commander and his hallmarks were "cheerful, prompt and efficient compliance with every requirement of whatever nature" throughout his years of service. Evans expresses hope that Dickins "will enjoy a well-earned rest" at this conclusion of his work.
