The collection contains letters received by Emma Virginia "Jennie" or "Geet" Hatfield Frye, 1845-1863. The writers include the following people: John F. Hatfield, her brother, while serving in the 10th Virginia Infantry Regiment. Hiram "Hiley" E. Hatfield while serving in the Valley Brass Band, 48th Virginia Infantry Regiment. Her sister Mary "Molley" M. Hatfield Thomas and husband James W. Thomas. Also represented are letters written by E. Jones Armstrong, Jane Scott (describing her wedding), J. W. Bryan, Co. K, 31st Virginia Regiment, E. Jones Armstrong, 31st Virginia Regiment, Annie Samprell, “Jennie’s” father A. F. Hatfield, and Mary M. Hatfield Thomas (discussing the death of A. F. Hatfield).
